For What It’s Worth is about depression, and isolation, and feeling like you’re exhausted by inevitabilities. It’s about the way we leave from everything, or the way it leaves from us - and the way that love and regret tend to linger.
lyrics
What I’ve become is not who I thought I might have been.
The weight of every failure marks my skin.
Something quiet and slow follows close, but I couldn’t tell you what it is.
I think I’m giving up, but maybe I’m just giving in.
For what it’s worth - that sinking feeling, those fleeting thoughts have gotten worse - and all there is, is all there’s ever been.
The way we suffer, the way we leave from one another.
The way we leave from everything.
How can I stay here now, and live without?
Loss is a language of love when love’s at a loss.
Nothing that I’ve ever held has left my heart.
Nothing that I’ve ever touched has left my hands.
All those words I wish I’d said a little louder,
All those words I wish so bad I’d never said.
All those things I wish so bad that I remembered,
That I spent so long trying so hard to forget.
And how she whispered, “God, I wish that I felt better.”
And how she screamed, “I’ve never felt so alive!”
And how she tried so hard to pull herself together -
How she tried to survive.
All those words I wish I’d said a little louder,
All those words I wish so bad I’d never said.
All those things I wish so bad that I remembered,
That I spent so long trying so hard to forget.
